Section 1School trip vocabulary
A school trip is una excursión escolar. Useful words include el permiso, el profesor, los estudiantes, la hora, la salida, la llegada, and el autobús. The thing to remember is that reading passages often hide answers in these simple nouns.
Section 2Means of transportation
Common transport words include el autobús, el coche, el taxi, el avión, el barco, la bicicleta, el tren, and a pie. In Jamaica, a class may travel en autobús for a trip to a museum or heritage site.
Section 3Travel verbs
Useful verbs include ir, viajar, llegar, salir, visitar, and tomar. Example: Vamos en autobús means We are going by bus. Watch out: en is used for many forms of transport.
Section 4Reading comprehension clues
In a reading passage, scan for names, times, places, and transport words. Here's the trick: do not translate every word first; find the clue words that match the question.
Examples
Translate: We are going by bus.
Use vamos from ir and en autobús for by bus: Vamos en autobús.
A passage says: La excursión escolar sale a las ocho en autobús. What two details do you know?
The trip leaves at eight and the students travel by bus. The clue words are sale, ocho, and autobús.
