Section 1Hobby vocabulary
Useful hobby phrases include jugar al fútbol, escuchar música, bailar, cantar, leer, ver la televisión, nadar, correr, cocinar, and usar la computadora. These phrases are helpful for oral answers and short paragraphs.
Section 2Regular present tense
To form the present tense, remove the infinitive ending and add the correct ending. For -ar verbs use -o, -as, -a, -amos, -áis, -an. For -er verbs use -o, -es, -e, -emos, -éis, -en. For -ir verbs use -o, -es, -e, -imos, -ís, -en.
Section 3Saying what you like
Use me gusta before a singular noun or infinitive: me gusta bailar. Use me gustan before plural nouns: me gustan los deportes. To say what others like, use te gusta, le gusta, nos gusta, os gusta, and les gusta.
Section 4Adverbs of frequency
Adverbs show how often an activity happens. Use siempre for always, normalmente for normally, a veces for sometimes, rara vez for rarely, and nunca for never.
Section 5Building a strong answer
A good hobby answer can name the activity, give frequency, add an opinion, and explain why. Example: Normalmente juego al fútbol después de la escuela porque es divertido.
Examples
Translate: I play football every Saturday.
Use juego from jugar and cada sábado for every Saturday: Juego al fútbol cada sábado.
Write a sentence saying you like music.
Use me gusta with the singular noun la música: Me gusta la música.
