Section 1Airport vocabulary
Airport is el aeropuerto. Useful words include el vuelo, la puerta, el pasaporte, la maleta, el equipaje, la tarjeta de embarque, and la aduana. These words are common in airport dialogues.
Section 2Check-in phrases
At check-in, you may hear Su pasaporte, por favor or ¿Tiene equipaje? You may say Aquí tiene or Tengo una maleta. Watch out: equipaje means luggage in general, while maleta is a suitcase.
Section 3Flight details
Airport questions often ask for destination, time, gate, or flight number. Example: El vuelo sale a las diez por la puerta cinco. The clue words are vuelo, sale, diez, and puerta cinco.
Section 4Dialogue style
Keep airport dialogue answers short and clear. Here's the trick: airport Spanish often uses polite requests plus key nouns, so you do not need complicated grammar to understand the main idea.
Examples
Translate: I have one suitcase.
Use tengo for I have and una maleta for one suitcase: Tengo una maleta.
A dialogue at Norman Manley airport says: El vuelo a Panamá sale por la puerta tres. What is the gate?
Puerta means gate. The flight leaves from gate three: la puerta tres.
